Read MoreMullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a tall wild plant with soft, silvery, felt-like leaves and towering spikes of yellow flowers. Its dried leaf has long held a place in traditional European and North American herbal customs, and it remains one of the classic garden botanicals sought out by herbal-tea drinkers today. As a tisane it brews a pale, mild cup — gentle, earthy and hay-like, with a soft, dry, leafy character. It's caffeine-free and easy to drink on its own, or combined with mint, licorice root or other herbs to round out its flavour. Note: mullein leaves carry very fine hairs, so strain the tea well through a fine mesh or a cloth-lined strainer before drinking for the smoothest cup.
